Changes to the Crew

Neil Coplin
Okay, there have some been a few changes in the crew in the past few weeks, and we're about to give you all some more. Hosh and I are planning another First Nighter. We'd like to open up membership starting about June and get another white class going. Target areas for this membership drive are going to be High Schools (per normal), User Groups (Central Ohio Linux User Group, Columbus Computer Society, etc.), OSU, and other Youth Groups. Of the High Schools, the ones we'd like to contact are: Upper Arlington, Hilliard, Dublin, Worthington, Westerville, Bexley, Gahanna. We've made up a list of deadlines that we MUST follow to pull this off sucessfully.

  • May 2 - Have made all the initial contacts to schools, etc. and have a draft of any fliers to be passed out.
  • May 9 - Have final draft for fliers done and have a draft of the first nighter schedule.
  • May 16 - Have any presentations scheduled with time, place, and date. Have final schedule for first nighter done.
  • Late May - Have the presentations scheduled for around this time.
  • June 13 - First Nighter
  • June 27 - Start the White Classes
  • July 3 - Last Day to turn in Registration Forms, membership closes.

We will also be having extended progress checks on May 9th and 23rd so we can make sure that we get the desired results and to give any help needed. The First Nighter will be on June 13th.

Our overall goal is to have 50 members in the Crew come next election. During this membership drive, the goal is to have 20 new members. This means we have to get about 50-75 people to show up to the first nighter.

We will go over this in more detail come this meeting Tuesday.

First Nighter Flyers

Ho-Sheng Hsiao
We are making two types of flyer this time around. We'll take one, and post it around OSU, and then take the other and post it around the schools, suburbabn libraries, and suburban recreational facilities.

Please send feedback. I'd like Nabeel, Jason, Ian to go over the one for the school and let me know what could be improved.

School/Library
Target audience: high-school, ages 15-18
Audience Profile:

Computer enthusiasts, aspiring programmers, may have heard of Linux or Unix, interested in learning more about the way the Internet works. Otherwise, they are bored over summer and would like something to do.

Flyer Content:

  • Have you ever built an INTERNET SERVER?
  • To find out how, join us for our summer program on tuesday evenings (7:00 - 9:00). Learn about and play with the technology that make the Internet tick.

  • Our membership opens on June 13th, 2000 and September X, 2000.

OSU

Target Audience: College students, ages 17-20

Audience Profile:

Typically, students enter into college without knowing what they want to do. They vaguely aware of a need to plan for their career. Maybe it is with computers, maybe it is with other forms of engineering. They might be looking for internships or other opportunities during the summer here in Columbus

Flyer Content:

Have you ever built an E-COMMERCE SERVER?

  • Fact: X% of all jobs by will be related to ecommerce
  • Fact: For every qualified UNIX System Administrator, there are four UNIX System Administration positions open.
  • Fact: X% of the world's ecommerce sites run on high-availability, world-class, enterprise UNIX systems.
  • Fact: Venturing Crew 369 teaches UNIX and mentors fledgling UNIX system administrators on Tuesday nights (7:00 - 9:00).
