       The Boy Scouts of America celebrated its 90th anniversary and
       reached a larger portion of America's youth than ever before,
       welcoming its 100 millionth youth member. Scoutreach's Hispanic
       marketing emphasis resulted in 148 volunteers being honored with
       the Whitney M. Young Jr. Service award, the largest number of
       recipients in the award's history. Awards for lifesaving and
       meritorious actions were given to 234 Scouts and Scouters. Scouts
       completed more than 214 million total hours of service for
       "America's Promise-The Alliance for Youth," surpassing the
       four-year goal of 200 million service hours by the end of 2000.
       Traditional membership, December 31, was 4,561,046. Total members
       to date,104,003,921.
